Team of the Week – Week 18

Tuesday, February 27th, 2018

Senior 1 Ladies had a cup semi-final away to Meteors on Tuesday and it turned out to be a really close encounter with both teams cancelling each other out most of the time. Meteors led by 1 pt at the end of the 1st quarter and increased the lead to 2 by half-time but Dynamos knew they were yet to turn up offensively and in the 3rd quarter they arrived with a whopping 23 points to take an 8 point lead into the 4th. The final quarter was a very nervy affair with Meteors fighting back and cutting the deficit as the clock was running down but Ciara held her nerve on the free throw line in the dying seconds to get Dynamos over the line by a single point and thoughts turned to a final appearance in March in the Oblate Hall v Killester who currently sit on top of the league.

Top scorers:
Heather Meagher 14.
Jen Sheehan 12.
Ellie Thornton 8.
Senior 3 Ladies faced Rangers in our Cup Semi Final, a very tough game against a team well deserving of their place in S3 next season, not a lot between the sides but we were always on the back foot until the last quarter when we out scored them 18-6 to win out by 8 and secured our place in the DLBB Cup Final!
It was back to the league on Thursday as Dynamos Senior 1 Ladies were away to a Mercy side they had lost to earlier in the season in the Oblates but with confidence high Dynamos didn’t panic when they fell behind in the 1st quarter by 10 but instead managed to get back to level pegging by halftime. As previously against Meteors on Tuesday it was an excellent 3rd quarter that changed the outcome of the game with Dynamos scoring 27 and conceding only 6. Final score 70-45 to Dynamos.

Top scorers Alison Leech 14.
Ciara White 13.
Sophie Doyle 12.
Next up is the Cup final on March 4th.
Following on from a very tough game Senior 3 Ladies faced their 3rd game in 7 days v Pegasus, a team that never say died. With some very tired bodies both mentally and physically we showed true grit to win by 3 despite winning first quarter by 16. The girls need a break but so proud as to how they have showed true team spirit over the last week. Thanks a mill to the lads who came to do table on Tuesday, to Patsy for getting 1st half of Senior 1 game and the 2nd half of ours and a special word of thanks to Joanne our resident table table official.
U11 Boys played Kilcock on Saturday in the Oblate Hall, despite being down some key players the boys pulled together and worked hard on defense to deny the opposition easy baskets, offensively the boys are really passing the ball unselfishly and creating opportunities for each other, a fine performance.
U15 Girls were away this weekend to Northside Eclipse. We were slow to get started and it was a peculiarly strange game with what seemed like no atmosphere at all! The girls played hard and kept plugging away, eventually getting on track and taking a convincing win of 34 to 18. Thanks again to all the support and we wish Kendra a speedy recovery from a knee injury. Well done girls!

U18 Girls were at home on Saturday to league leaders DCU Mercy who are unbeaten. The girls started the quarter well creating some good scoring opportunities on offence and working well on our help Defence. But Mercy picked up the pace in the latter stages of the first and got some steals from a press to be up by 10 at the end of the first. The girls refocused again and played really good basketball at times breaking the press and won the 2nd quarter by 2. Lapses of concentration once again in the 3rd gave Mercy a good lead at the end of the 3rd quarter. However in true Oblate style the girls never gave up. We came out fighting in the 4th and the girls fought hard with changes in Defence that seemed to work well. We kept Mercy to 2 points in the 4th but couldn’t close the lead we gave them in the 3rd. The girls should be very proud as there are huge improvements in everyone. Well done. Next game Friday night at home to Killester.
U17 Boys travelled to Ongar for an U17 League game. Ongar are a very high scoring team and very difficult to stop. However the Centurions competed well in a very much improved performance, and although Ongar where comfortable winners on the scoresheet it was a very competitive game throughout.
U11 Girls report to follow….

U13 Boys played Ongar on Sunday evening and put in a strong performance against a team that had well beaten them in the first half of the season. Hard work on defense stopping any easy baskets and fast breaks. Great rebounding and strong plays gave the boys a much deserved win.
This weeks ‘Team of the Week‘ goes to……
U16 Girls played away to Killester on Saturday morning and with Caitlyn still out injured the magnificent seven knew they’d all have to put in a shift again to give a Killester side with a couple of internationals and a couple of  Dublin players in their 12. All 7 were brilliant on defence and restricted Killester to free throws and the occasional outside shot while scoring on the break and hitting from outside themselves. Dynamos had a poor last quarter offensively but their defence never changed as they held out for a 1 point win. Their recent efforts finally paid off following some heartbreaking defeats. Keep up the good work ladies.
U12 Girls played their last home match of the season on Sunday against Malahide.  Both teams were evenly balanced skill wise but the Oblate girls had a height advantage.  The first half was very tight, basket for basket and although Oblate were taller, their opponents were speedy and tenancious which caused the girls a lot of problems.  Malahide lead the first half by 3 points (18 – 21). The second half saw the Oblate girls get off to a good start, they rebounded well and with a lot more grit, excellent defence and some great team work by everyone they started to break away from Malahide.  Such a big difference in the girls performance from the first half to the second half showed some hidden passion from the players that they wanted to win as well as have fun!  Their fight and determination not to lose their players on defence paid off and they won the game by 13 points (46 – 33).  But for those who were watching, this scoreline did not truly reflect the game as both teams played very well.
