Team of the Week – 14

Monday, January 29th, 2018

D2 men went away to young Liffey Celtics team. Centurions played the game at their own pace and put the game to bed with a quarter to spare. Darragh O’ Neill led the scoring with 30pts but Sean Phipps also had his shooting boots with him (Momma P’s baby boy scored 18 on the night including 4 from down town). The Ryan brothers went 100% from the free throw line which was another impressive feature. Shane and Dave both remain sidelined with ankle injuries picked up in the line of duty but the team was boosted by the return of Barry Cullen, who recovered from a hip and heel injury. Final score was 78 – 55. The men now have won 5 games in a row and they welcome Tolka Rovers to the Oblates thhis week, Well done fellas

Our D5 Senior mens team were home to Ongar on Friday. The team was missing Alan who has an ankle injury, and Conor, who became a father for the first time, Congratulations! With 8 players still available they struggled on and won the game convincingly with Ciaran O’Doherty (12) Aodhan Bolger (13) and Brian Mcnamara(10) all scoring double digits. Centurions ran out comfortable in the end on scoreline of 63 – 31. Next up for the lads is an away game to Malahide.

Senior 3 Ladies to follow……….

U15 boys were back in the Oblates and welcomed Malahide. Having come from a disappointing loss the week previous the boys were eager to put things right and that’s what they did.  Coach Lynn spoke to the boys about all the little things that help you win games, the extra hustle, the pressure defense, winning the battle of the boards and working hard for each other, the boys put this into practice and got the W. Lynn was impressed by the boys TEAM work which was truly evident in this game. A special credit to the boys on their defensive performance, playing a box and 1 something they never played before and executed it very well.

U12 Dynamos played at home this weekend against Killester. It was very difficult to set the teams apart skill wise and it proved to be a very entertaining to watch (so us coaches believe!!)  The Oblate girls never gave up during this fast paced game and was good to see 7 of the Oblate team participated in the scoring – a sure sign of teamwork. The game ended with a high score of 41 – 46, not a bad score for an U12 game!

U10 boys played in a blitz in Colaiste Brid on Sunday morning, the boys played 4 games. They worked hard and learned a lot, all they need is time with a basketball through training and the player improvement camps and encouragement in keeping active. Well done boys.

U13 boys recorded their first official win of the season away to Liffey Celtic on Sunday afternoon. A strong performance throughout the game, playing to their strengths and improved defense led to this much anticipated win. Well done and the start of a good run of performances. A very close TOTW

Dynamos U16 faced a much bigger Kilcock on Sunday in the Oblates with only 7 players available (3 of whom are u15). The girls managed to win 3 of the 4 quarters but it was the quarter they lost that would prove crucial on this occasion. Dynamos fought back from 18 points behind in the second half and had a chance to level the game with the last shot but just fell short. It was another great team effort by the magnificent seven  but 1 of the U15s had a particularly good game scoring 23pts that included 7, 3pointers so well done Kerrie. Keep up the good work and you might get 8 one day to match that great Centurion from days of old! (i wonder who that was???)
