Team of the Week – Week 8

Tuesday, November 28th, 2017

Sen 3 Ladies travelled away to face Glasnevin. Started well but a poor second quarter saw us down by 2 at halftime. The ladies stepped up the defence and took charge of the boards putting us ahead at end of the 3rd. We remained in control for the remainder of the game. Laura took a nasty fall with 31 seconds to go and it looked like she might be out for some time. Final result Oblates 53 Glasnevin 45. Top scorers on the night were Laura, Janice and Martha but the real winner on the night was how the team took control in the 2nd half with some extremely good defensive play and rebounding

Senior 1 Ladies played Meteors away on Thursday night and despite not playing that well only went down by 8 points. Dynamos will now  play 3 home fixtures over the next 3 Thursdays and will be looking to make home advantage count heading into the Christmas break.

Senior 3 Ladies saw us play UCD at home and the good news was Laura deemed yourself fit to play which was welcomed as we were missing a couple of players for this game. A very tight first half saw the sides level at half time. A very commanding 3rd quarter saw us take control the game and the win, final result Oblates 55 UCD 39. Top scorers were Ellen and Martha. It was a super team performance especially after the physical battle we had on Wednesday.

U11 Boys played templeogue on Saturday, templeogue were quite tall and had some very skillful players on their team. The oblate boys were not fazed and set about playing their game with great energy on defense and good passing and decision making on offense.

U16 Girls played away to Mercy on Saturday and thus turned out to be a really close encounter. Both sides were evenly matched and neither could put any daylight between the two sides. As the last quarter neared the final few seconds Dynamos took a 3 point lead only to see Mercy level things up with the last shot of regular time. In the 5 minutes of overtime Mercy took the win as a deflated Oblates knew thus one had slipped through their fingers but valuable lessons were learned going forward. Next up is an away fixture v Kilkock next Sunday…

U13 Boys faced Dublin Lions in clondalkin but could only get 9 players, disappointing for the ones that turned up but still an opportunity to improve their individual and team performances. If we can do the simple things right more often and keep our concentration for longer we can complete with most teams. Last Sunday the boys played a cup game against Eanna and started slowly and at one stage in the second quarter were 16 down brought it back to 6 by half time. The third quarter the Boys pressed which got them 5 ahead at end of third, a further change of tactics in the 4 th gave the game by 18, now on to next round of the cup. Well Done Boys!

U18 Girls had 2 games this weekend. First up at home on Saturday was Ongar. The girls came out of the blocks quickly and got a good lead in the first quarter. From here on we were in control of the game and played some nice basketball. Girls responded well to changes in Defence and worked well as a team on offense. Oblates took the win.

U11 Girls had another game this week against Kilcock, the girls started off much better compared to last weeks game and kept it going throughout doing the small things right the girls are showing signs of improvement every week.

Next up on Sunday for the U18 Girls was DCU Mercy. This was always going to be a tough game against the league leaders. The girls did themselves proud and kept flighting to the end but Mercy proved too strong in the end. A lot of positives to take from the game with a lot more to come.

U15 Girls had another home game this weekend against Meteors. We knew nothing about them, except for the fact that they were an exceptionally tall team! We played a man-to-man and the girls fought hard for every loose ball, which was great to see. We were 25-4 up at the half which was a true reflection on the girls performance, however, we struggled a little with our finishing in the second half, something we can work on! Well done to Aoibheann who scored 15 and to Natasha who scored 8 points. The girls came out winners: 36-19 so well done everybody! We are at home again next week too.

U12 Girls played against Killester on Sunday afternoon. Killester got off to a good start in the first 2 quarters and carried an 8 point lead into the second half. The Oblate girls never gave up and continued fighting. We started to chip away at the deficit, our rebounding was excellent, scoring from our offensive rebounds and running fast breaks from our defensive rebounds. Every player contributed in this exciting fast paced game. Spectators were on the edge of their seats and it was only in the last couple of minutes that Oblate girls built up a 5 point lead and kept it to win the match. This team definitely deserve a nomination for TOTW. Thanks to all the supporters.
