Team of the week #19

Monday, March 31st, 2014

U16 Girls had a busy week ahead with 2 midweek games, first up were Templeogue. The girls worked extremely hard on defence and were patient on offence. Mae and Clarie were causing Templeogue trouble while some dogged defence from Ellie led to a fine win.

Their 2nd game in 3 days saw the girls welcome Mercy to the Oblate Hall. From the start of the game Dynamos showed composure and skill which led to a good lead at the half but Mercy upped their defence in the second half which forced the girls into some bad decisions and allowed Mercy to take the game in the end. Season 2013 – 2014 is over, next season starts this week.

Senior 3 Dynamos finished their season on a high with a stunning display against Bray Bullets with the girls managing to score in the high 70s. Well done Andy and girls on a great season.

Senior 1 Dynamos failed in their bid to claim the Div 1 title with a poor performance against Tridents who were deserved winners on the night.

U13s girls played Firhouse on Saturday. The girls played some really tough Defense throughout the game against our friends in Firhouse. A great atmosphere at this game as most of these girls will be preparing for the Listowel primary school tourney in a couple of weeks.

U15 Dynamos played Meteors and put in a solid performance all round and won convincingly.

U14s Dynamos played a very strong Kubs side and went down by 12pts but they slowly fought themselves back into the game with alot of hustle and determination to win by 3pts. Great fight from the girls especially in the final quarter.

U16 Centurions put in serious  effort in their encounter away to Kubs but fell short but plenty of positive for Coach Lynn

U18 Dynamos had a brilliant win away to Malahide. Last U18 game for this group and they saved the best for last. We had only 7 players and were down by 12pts after the 1st quarter but we dug in and everyone played their part. Billie was outstanding on D and even when she and Sarah fouled out the remaining 5 saw the game out with deadly accuracy from the line. Great way to wrap up the season from a wonderful group of Dynamos. In Terry’s excitement, he sat down and broke a very lightweight chair to everyone’s amusement. Terry said ” The performance the magnificent 7 put in makes me realise why i loved coaching this team”

U14s Dynamos had an early start on Sunday morning  with most of the girls having 2 games on Saturday and the clocks going forward, there were alot of tired bodies out in Mercy. They went down by 16pts in the 1st and found it hard to fight back from this. But the girls never gave up and showed great spirit. Mercy take the W.

U12 Dynamos travelled to face a tall Meteors side. We were down players but upstepped the reliable Kendra to make her debut. The girls played great defense and passing the ball well saw them down by 5pts at the half. 3rd quarter saw the Dynamos defense played like it should be and in turn Meteors failed to register a score to our 12pts. The 4th was close but the girls kept up the intensity and hard work winning by 10pts. Much improved defense and teamwork, the girls were all delighted with the game and a good start for the coming season.

This weeks team of the week are the history making Centurions Division 1.

What a weekend. The mens team created history by making it to the semi final of the D1 Dublin Cup. St Vincents were their opponents. This proved to be a great and exciting game and was witness by a packed Oblate Hall. Big David Demoko had a huge game with 20pts and rebound masterclass which lead the men to victory by 8pts.
Next up was the final against Killester who beat them twice this season. Killester were up 6pts before we got going. David registered our first score followed by big 3s from Farid and Alberto. First quarter ended level at 20pts each. 2nd was also close with Killester full court pressing and Centurions turning over the ball but they did not panic thanks to Captain John Walshe who was controlling the tempo of the game. Huge boards from Dermot throughout and some fine scores from Barry saw Centurions down by 3 at the half.
Player coach Brian had the help of Coach Sean on the bench to keep things calm and Centurions were never more than 4pts behind until the final quarter. Killester were getting tired and with 1 of their players getting a T, Centurions began to move ahead for the first time in the game. A super baby hook from Barry stretched the lead and scores from different players saw Centurions win the game to the delight of the home supporters. 8 out of the 11 players scored which proved this truly was a team effort.
Emotional scenes at the presentation with Chairman of the DMBB, our very own Andy( founder member of the club) presenting John with the cup for the first time in our 30 year history.
