Team of the week #14

Sunday, February 23rd, 2014

Senior 1 ladies were the ones to kick off a busy week of fixtures. They welcomed neighbours Firhouse to the Oblates. Firhouse are an experienced team and had the better of Dynamos in the first half, out rebounding and out scoring them by 5pts at the break. Ken and the girls realised that it wasn’t good enough and things changed in the 2 half. Ellie commanded the boards both ends and hit big outside shots. Jen found her range beyond the arc and Aoife and Alison were scoring as usual. Dynamos managed to score a massive 32pts in the third. They ran out 18pt winners and a huge effort was put in from the whole team. Big games ahead for the girls as the league is still there for the taking but they must win the rest of their games. Close TOTW
U18 girls played Meteors on Thursday evening. The girls fought hard against a much bigger Meteors side who boast a number of International players but Dynamos kept the scoreline respectable.
Friday night was the turn of the Centurions division 1. Killester were the visitors to the Oblates. The lads were in the game right up to the 4th quarter but Killester punished Centurions turnovers and ran out winners.
Saturday morning was the debut for our Dynamites girls. Coach Igor brought over his Mount Anville primary school team to play against our Dynamites. This was some of the girls first taste of a game of Basketball. It was a great experience and something that we will do again. A lot of these girls are just 7 and 8 years of age so they have plenty of time to enjoy the fantastic game. Thanks to Igor for bringing the girls over. Great to see him in the Oblates.

U13 Dynamos were next up to face Templeogue. The girls have been training hard in preparation for the cup final next weekend. The girls played terrific Defense and worked great together as a team, especially those who attended our recent camp. Won by 7pts. Great team performance which will stand to them next week.
U16 Centurions played Killester away. This was the first time the boys played this team so they didn’t know too much about them. Centurions got off to a flying start with running the floor and converting from outside but Killester changed it up and pressed causing turnovers. The boys just lacked concentration for a bit of this game which gave Killester a margin of 9pts that we could not close.
U18 Dynamos were back in action away to Liffey Celtic. It was neck and neck all the way. Dynamos fought for every ball in front of a packed gym. It came down to free throws in the end. Ingrid hit two when we were a point down with 30 seconds to go and in a frantic finish, Liffey Celtic missed two free throws with no time left on the clock. Dynamos win by 1!
U12 Dynamos were away to Killester. Dynamos showed fantastic improvement in ball movement and worked tirelessly on Defence. The girls lost this by the narrowest of margins but they all put on a brilliant display of basketball. Well done girls. Keep working hard especially on D.
Our National League team were in action against rivals Tralee Imperials. The girls showed what they are made off in the second half of this game. Tralee took a lead which Dynamos chipped away thanks to outstanding outside shooting from Shelly. OVERTIME. Both teams put in great effort but tiredness set in with Dynamos missing easy looks at the basket and free throws. Tralee take the win. This will probably leave the girls an away tie against Portlaoise.
U15 Centurions were on away duty to Liffey Celtic. Coach Sean took this one as Lynn was busy with the National League team. Liffey Celtic were a big tough side and Centurions struggled on the boards in the first half. Centurions up 6 at the half but Liffey celtic went on a run to take the lead by 7pts. The boys went up a gear which led to them taking the lead and holding out for a 7pt win. Still on course fellas. Big one next week, St Vincents away!
This weeks TOTW is shared between the Senior 3 Dynamos and U16 Dynamos.
Senior 3. Brilliant display from the girls on Friday evening against Maol og. This was going to be a tough game especially with out the influencial Shannon Keech who is injured.  Dynamos were down by 12pts in the 3rd quarter. Super defensive performance from everyone against a far taller opposition. Niamh Watt hit some crucial outside shots before Ingy hit a 3 to put us ahead in the final few seconds. Laura Walker put in a master class of defence (all club members should watch this young lady as you will learn from the best). Sarah kept their danger player quiet and Dynamos take the win. The girls are on a roll. Well done to everyone involved.
U16 girls welcomed Liffey Celtic to a packed Oblate hall. This game felt like a cup final. The girls were without Irish International, Claire who is injured but all of the girls stepped up.  They worked very hard and competed for every ball but lapses in concentration and missed free throws cost them dearly in the end. But the girls can take a lot from this game as they all showed great heart and skill at time only to go down by 4pts in a high scoring game.
Everyone should be proud of their efforts this week. Its a pleasure to be part of a fantastic CLUB. The support in all the different games is second to none.
