WEEK 7

Week 7 fixtures started early this week with our Senior 3 ladies on the road to play Killester on Tuesday evening. Our girls gave it their all but fell short but no doubt will do their very best to reverse this result.

Centurions men were in home action again on Friday evening against St Declans. St Declans manages to take the win but there were some positives in the game and the lads feel that they let this one slip. Keep working hard fellas!

The one and only boys game on Saturday was our U15 Centurions away to Malahide. The boys started the game brightly and were up from early in the 1st but could have been more. The performance overall was good and coach Lynn was happy enough with certain players particularly Matthew (mr reliable) who took on the job as point guard and Carl G who’s help D and vision was excellent. As always captain C led by example with Karl and Sean cleaning up on the boards. John was versatile playing in so many different positions and Daragh top scored in the assists. Special mention to U13 Aodhan who steps up when available and never looks out of place. Centurions still unbeaten in the league. (very close contenders for TOTW)

U15 Dynamos were in cup action away to Division 2 Kubs. The girls got the win and were in control for most of the game against a up and coming Kubs side. Dynamos through to the next round of the cup. Good job ladies!

U16 Dynamos were up first in an away tie to Mercy. The girls fought back several times but lost by 7 in the end. They need to keep the intensity up for longer and not give up. Next time Ladies!

U14 Dynamos were next to grace the floor of our fantastic home court. They welcomed friends and rivals Firhouse. Many of these girls have struck up friendship through their school trip away to Listowel where Friblates (firhouse/oblates) was ignited. Dynamos had a strong first half performance but firhouse never gave up and battled till the end. Dynamos get the W!

u17 Centurions were away to St Vincents 2 on Sunday evening. Due to work commitments coach Sean has been unable to take the boys training sessions. (thanks to the mens team who stepped in to help out). Centurions only travelled with 7, with players unavailable due to illness. Big players getting into foul trouble early meant that the team needed to compose itself and players needed to stand up and be counted. Notable Scott who hustled and hit big shots when needed. The boys won by 20pts and will face this team in the cup semi final. These young Centurions will have to put in alot of work if they want to get to their first cup final. No doubt they will.

U12 Centurions were the final game of the weekend. The boys put up a great display against Liffey Celtic at home. showing off their skills on offence and defence, the boys kept it close with 4 min to go in the 1st. However Liffey Celtic came up with some great scores to build a leas at the end of the half. Again our boys came out firing in the second half and despite narrowing the gap to 9, it wasn’t to be today. But keep working guys you are doing great.

This week’s TOTW is our U20 Ladies.

Oblate Dynamos took on their Dublin neighbours from Meteors today in the National Cup Quarter Finals.  It was a much anticipated clash between two very talented teams.  Dynamos came out of the blocks the quickest and were 7 points up in the first 2 minutes before Meteors managed their first score.  Dynamos defence was at its best keeping the mighty Meteors to just 10 points in the first quarter while they amassed 23 points themselves in a pulsating first 10 minutes. In the second quarter Meteors tightened up on defence and both teams were finding it hard to score but Dynamos went into the break 35 – 21 ahead.
Meteors came out for the third quarter firing on all cylinders and managed to cut the deficit to 6 points before scores from Aishling McSweeney, Heather Meagher and Jenny Sheehan steadied the ship.  Dynamos made some costly turnovers against Meteors press but by the end of the third quarter they still led by 14 points.  The fourth quarter started just as the third quarter had with Meteors stepping up at the offensive end with some fine scoring from Cliona Martin and with only minutes remaining the game was on the line as Meteors had cut the deficit to just 1 point.  Katie Maloney hit a massive 3 to put the Dynamos up by 4 points but Meteors replied instantly with a monster 3 from Aoife Whelan and as the game entered its final minute it was anybodies for the taking.  Up stepped Heather Meagher to calm the Dynamos nerves with a sweet shot from the top of the key to add to her game high 20 points.  Two free throws from Meteors Aoife Whelan put the game back to 1 point and with just 30 seconds remaining Dynamos called a time out.  The girls worked the ball well against the Meteors press and with the shot clock winding down Katie Maloney hit another clutch 3 pointer to seal the deal and send the Dynamos through to the semi finals where they will meet Glanmire from Cork. This was truly a great team performance spurred on by an incredible crowd and this game will live long in memory of all who attended.

Top scorers, Heather Meagher 20, Katie Maloney 13, Aileen Crowley 11.
