Congratulations to Katie and Heather for their achievements on the Irish U16 Panel. The Club is very proud of them.
Katie travels to Macedonia as part of the U16 Irish Team and Heather travels to Barcelona as part of the Irish U16 Development Group.
This a great achievement for the girls who are very young (U15). Next year they will still be eligible to compete at U16 level.
Here is what Basketball Ireland had to say about the U16 squads (Girls & Boys)

The Ireland under 16 squads have been revealed ahead of an extremely busy summer for the international programme.
The Under-16 squad will travel to Tallinn in Estonia to participate in the Under 16 European Championships (Division B).
It promises to be a tough group with Ireland set for battle with Belarus, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic and England. On top of this, the side will also be hosting Wales in Ireland with away friendly internationals planned against the Netherlands.
“All 25 players and staff have worked very hard to date and the chemistry in the squad has really developed and we look forward to continuing building our team over the coming months with the continued support of all concerned,” said U16B Boys Head Coach Paul Kelleher.
Paul will be ably assisted by assistant coach Adrian O’Neill and Jim Wolfe.
Head Coach Dave Baker will lead the Irish under 16 girls into European Championship action as they look forward to facing Israel, Ukraine and Germany. The games take place on August 12 -22 in the Macedonian capital of Skopje. On top of this, the side will also be hosting England in Ireland with away friendly internationals planned against Luxembourg and Scotland
“The U16 girls Panel have been working very hard over the past few months with individuals trying to fight for positions on both the development squad and the European championship squad,” said U16B Girls Head Coach Dave Baker. “The team development continues at the end of April and while the selection process will be very difficult, I feel with a lot of hard work from the players we will have all the key elements on both teams to make Ireland very proud come competition time.”
Meanwhile, an Under-16 Men’s Development Group will travel to France to gain some much needed experience while the U16 Women will play in Barcelona.
It’s another exciting trip to the US for both the Irish Under-18 National Boys and Girls team with the Boys, coached by Francis O’Sullivan, set for Conneticut and the AAU event in Springfield Mass.
“The trip should provide a fantastic experience for everyone involved and a unique opportunity to witness a different style of play,” said Irish under 18 B Boys Coach Francis O’Sullivan.
The under-18 Girls are also off to Connecticut where they will travel to play in the AAU Tournaments in Penn State under the watchful eye of Bill Cardarelli. “This U18 Women’s team is a talented group of players who will be able to compete at a high level in the States this summer,” said Cardarelli. Both U18M and U18W squads will line out two teams for the AAU event to ensure plenty of competitive practice for the players and coaches.
